Every day, we get questions from our customers about all things beauty. It can be about anything, from which products we personally swear by to exactly how to use them for best results. So this week, the BeautyMNL Editors are answering a few inquiries that came in through the mail. By that, of course, we mean our email: sos@beautymnl.com. There’s no Q too big or too small, too strange or too simplistic, so keep ‘em coming, beautiful!

HOW DO YOU DRAW THE PERFECT CAT EYE?

Iza: “I’ve been doing my makeup for years now, but I can’t seem to perfect a cat eye no matter what I do. Can you make a tutorial for this?”

ANSWER: Before we get into the details, allow us to say one thing: we feel you. Tracing out a neat, clean cat eye seems to be a common conundrum among makeup lovers. So much can go wrong—crooked lines, accidental smudges, uneven flicks. The list goes on and on and on. That’s why the mere thought of picking up her eyeliner can make a girl feel anxious!

But here’s the simple truth: all it takes is practice and a really good liquid formula. Allow us to show you exactly how to wing it, one line at a time.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED: A liquid liner. We’re using the L’Oreal Paris Superliner Expressionist.

This liquid liner features everything you need to draw a flawless cat eye: a smudge-proof formula and sharp-tipped brush.

STEP 1: WING

Ease your eyeliner fears by drawing the hardest part of your cat eye first: the outer wing. Most of us tend to draw this line way too long. To avoid that mistake, start at the end of the wing.
With a light hand, lightly place the brush tip where you want the wing to stop. Then, draw a diagonal line to connect that point to the outer corner of your eye.

NOTE: Make sure not to press your brush too hard! You want this line to be as thin as possible. if you apply too much pressure, this will flatten the brush and create a line that’s too thick.
Now, go back to the tip of your wing. Starting from that point, draw another diagonal line connecting it to your lash line. It should create the shape of a scalene triangle. This will be the outline of your wing.

STEP 2: FILL

Now that you have the outline of your wing, carefully fill it in with your liquid liner.

STEP 3: CENTER

Next, place the brush tip at the center of your lash line. Draw a line connecting it to the edge of your wing. Make it as thick or thin as you like. Fill in any blank spaces to keep the color uniform.

STEP 4: INNER CORNERS

To tie everything together, draw a thin line starting from the inner corner of your eye to the center. Make sure to keep the line as close to your lash line as possible.
BOOM. Easy, breezy, beautiful cat-eyes!

Wasn’t that simple? With enough practice, drawing the perfect cat eye will be nothing more to you than a quick flick of the wrist. Promise!
